Roma Youth – European Youth 2
During the time period 25.05.2011 – 31.05.2011, the Nevo Parudimos Association from Resita, developed the second edition of the training referring to work methods for Roma young people, realized as part of the Roma Youth – European Youth 2 project, financed by the European Commission, through the Youth in Action Program.
The Roma Youth – European Youth 2 addresses young people from different cultural environments, youth workers, social workers, active persons in the youth field, young people with reduced possibilities, Roma youth and trainers that work with Roma young people and is refers to a training course that took place over a period of 7 days at the Ferdinand Hotel in Baile Herculane, to which 28 young people from five countries participated: Romania, Italy, Germany, France, Bulgaria and Hungary.
Through this project, the Nevo Parudimos Association proposed to meet youth workers who address the Roma ethnicity, thus trying to increase the access of these young people to youth activities that may lead to the development of their social inclusion.
The project objectives are:
- To prepare youth workers in the youth work domain which addresses Roma ethnicity;
- To capacitate young participants in being able to develop activities which can use at a practical level the guide “9 steps in working with young Roma”, realized during the first edition in order to promote inclusion.
- The evaluation and improvement of the guide “9 steps in working with young Roma”, realized during the first edition in order to promote inclusion.
- Contributing in attracting the participants attention to all forms of prejudice and discrimination and their daily lives;
- To contribute to the participants knowledge of the Roma customs, tradition and history, so that they may understand and accepted them easier;
This training course promoted the active participation of youth, the methodology proposed being based on the principles of non-formal education, on cultural diversity, which was insured by the involvement of young people from five countries, of a Roma ethnicity and as majority representatives.
As a result of this project, new contracts between youth organisations were scheduled, especially for those addressing Roma ethnicity all over Europe, thus establishing the base for new projects which address this young people group.
