Nevo Parudimos Association, as a partner, together with the Resource Center Association for Urban Regeneration and the Association of the Intercultural Institute Timisoara implements between 02.08.2021 – 31.03.2023 the project Development of civic capacity of rural communities by empowering Roma communities in rural areas financed by EEA and Norwegian Grants 2014 – 2021 – Active Citizens Fund Romania
The project addresses rural communities in Timiș County in which the Roma community has a relevant share, its problems influencing the general development of the community.
The lack of local civic involvement capacity of Roma communities in rural areas, often combined with the widespread lack of capacity of the community and local public authorities, has led to the preservation of exclusion and the perpetuation of the problems of Roma communities.
Discrimination, uncertain and unsanitary housing, reduced access to basic resources are just some of the obstacles that Roma face and persist despite national and European strategies, which are blocked in rural areas due to lack of support, information or reduced capacity of the authorities to manage them. The present project targets 800 people from rural localities in Timiș County in which the Roma community has a relevant share, which makes the problems it faces influence the overall development of the community.
The aim of the project is to develop the capacity to get involved in the decision-making process for the rural Roma communities in Timiș County through an explicit but not exclusive approach to the problems faced by these communities.
The objectives of the project are:
- Civic mobilization of 800 people from rural areas in the localities of Timiș County targeted by the project over a period of 20 months, through an integrated approach to improve interethnic relations and facilitate Roma integration, through integrated activities with general addressability
- Development of civic education through an explicit but not exclusive approach of the rural Roma communities in the localities from Timiș County targeted by the project in a period of 20 months
- Development of the structure of local civic involvement in the localities from Timiș County targeted by the project in a period of 20 months through an integrated approach to the challenges related to the plan of activities, financing and development of their human resources
The project is carried out by the Resource Center Association for Urban Regeneration, in partnership with the Nevo Parudimos Association and the Timisoara Intercultural Institute Association and benefits from a funding of 249,289 euros, through the Active Citizens Fund Romania program, funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through EEA Grants 2014-2021.
