Nevo Parudimos, in partnership with Co-Efficient Hungary and the United Society of Balkans in Greece, is launching the Hidden Dimensions of Inclusion in the Youth Sector project. through the European Union’s Erasmus + program.

The project is the result of an international collaboration of three Eastern European civil society organizations involved in educational, social and advocacy activities in disadvantaged communities. The aim of the project is to increase the accessibility of youth services and the interest of involving young people with disabilities in projects at European level.

Civil society organizations collaborating on this project have extensive experience in involving young people with disabilities in learning and personal development activities implemented locally and internationally. The inclusion of young people with disabilities in the three communities involved is a key objective of the activities of this project, with a focus on promoting an independent life and increasing the confidence of these young people to become self-sustaining and active citizens.

Existing European youth services place almost no emphasis on the involvement of people with disabilities; According to data provided by the Hungarian Erasmus + National Agency, only 1.9% of the total number of participants in Erasmus + funded youth projects in 2019 were people with special needs.

Young people living with disabilities are often deprived of access to community activities and less willing to mobilize, which affects their social status and long-term lifestyle. Educational institutions try to integrate these young people, but the success of these efforts is limited, the limitations being: the inflexible pedagogical framework, the lack of qualified experts and the lack of an environment free of barriers and adequate to their needs.

For 27 months, the Hidden Dimensions project aims to:

– carry out a series of researches and formulate new policy recommendations in the field of involving young people with disabilities in European projects.
– assess barriers to existing youth work infrastructure – define barriers as widely as possible
– to gather data and knowledge from professionals working in the field.

During the project, a survey will be conducted with 50 youth organizations in each country (at least 150 youth workers in each country) and 20 in-depth interviews with leaders of selected youth organizations to identify the needs of youth organizations when it comes. it is about increasing the accessibility of the services it provides for young people with disabilities in the local community.

Based on the results of the above-mentioned interviews, a research report will be published in the project and new policies will be proposed to increase the accessibility of young people with disabilities to European projects and youth services.
