General presentation

During the period 01.05.2010 – 30.10.2010, the Nevo Parudimos Association from Resita implemented the project “Education – a chance for the future”, financed by the Youth in Action program, action 1.2 – Youth initiatives.

The project was initiated by a group of four young people of Roma ethnicity from the Caras-Severin District, volunteers of the association. The partners of the association, in the implementation of this project are volunteers from the Resita Volunteer Centre.

The objective of the project “Education – a chance for the future” was to increase the information level of Roma youth from the Caras-Severin District and of their parents in connection to the importance of education and facilities offered to pupils and students.

Objectives:

  • The informing of young Roma people, from the Caras-Severin District about special positions offered to young Roma in faculty admittance, in high schools or in vocational schools
  • The informing of young Roma people about governmental programs and other programs offered by support civilian societies for young people from disadvantaged communities (scholarships, high school money, euro200, the Scholarship Roma Education Found, Scholarships from foundations and association from the country or from abroad).
  • The offering of positive models for young people from Roma communities from the Caras-Severin district and their parents in order to motivate them to continue their studies.

Results

The project activities referred to the development of three information campaigns:

  • One referring the special positions offered to Roma ethnicity pupils and students in high schools and faculties:
  • One referring to facilities offered to pupils and students (scholarships and support programs from NGO’s and from the government);
  • One referring to the importance of education.
