The project “70 years from Auschwitz – Recalling and education young Europeans about Roma genocide” was financed by the European union in the project “Europe for citizens”.

7 events were organised  in this project:

 

1st Event – Preparing meeting

Participation: the event allowed 15 citizens to meet, one from each country partner in this project, coming from the following towns/cities: Resita, Romania; Budapest, Hungary;  Berlin, Germany; Beek Ubbergen, Holland; Brussels, Belgium; Barcelona, Spain; Rome, Italy; Banska Bystrica, Slovakia; Wien, Austria; Belgrad-Ripanj, Serbia; Kumanovo, Macedonia; Kamen, Bulgaria; Krakovia, Poland; Usti nad Labem, The Czech Republic; Paris, France.

Place/Date: The event took place in Timisoara, Romania, during the period  10.09.- 13.09.2015

Short description: The event was organised with the objective of preparing future activities of the project. Details about logistics and the project promotion were discussed, the promotion strategy was finalized and a set of standard documents that were to be used in this project. The event also offered the partners the opportunity to establish some general communication rules and the roles of each partner involved in this project.

 

2nd Event – the recognition and recalling of the Roma Holocaust from the Czech Republic

Participation: The event allowed 46 citizens from more countries to meet, as follows: 4 from the town of Resita (Romania), 6 from the city of Berlin (Germany), 4 from the city of Budapest (Hungary), 2 from the city Beek Ubbergen (Holland), 5 from the city of Brussels (Belgium), 3 from the city of Barcelona (Spain), 2 from the city of Rome (Italy), 2 from the city of Banska Bystrica (Slovakia), 2 from the city of Wien (Austria), 2 from the city of Belgrade (Serbia), 2 from the city of Kumanovo (Macedonia), 2 from the city of Kamen (Bulgaria), 3 din Krakovia (Poland), 5 from Usti nad Labem and Prague (The Czech Republic) and 2 from Paris (France).

Place/Date: The event took place in  Prague and in Lety from the Czech Republic during the time period: 01.12.2015 – 05.12.2015.

Short description: the event was organized in order to mark the commemoration of the genocide against the Roma people in the Czech Republic and in order to signal officials on the fact that a pig farm was established on the same spot as the extermination camp. The event contained a cooperation meeting organized on the 2nd of December, during  which new partnerships were established, a visit during which a moment of commemoration was organized for the extermination camp in Lety on the 3rd of December and a conference with the main theme: the Roma holocaust, organized by the Czech Republic on the 4th of December.

 

3rd Event – Commemoration events organized by young people

Participation: The event was organized by using social networks and the internet by each partner, in the home country.

Place/Date: The events took place in all countries that were partners in this project, at the partner headquarter, being organized during the 27th of January, the Recalling Day of the Holocaust.

Short description: The event was dedicated to the commemoration of the Holocaust day, the 27th of January and was composed of campaigns organized by young people with the help of the social media and of other media, in each country partner in this project, around that date. At the same time, other information dissemination events referring to the Roma Holocaust took place: round tables, theatre plays, flash mobs, debates, or letters sent to the Holocaust survivors (a total of approximately 640 letters), meetings of young people and others with the Holocaust survivors  and meetings with the local authorities during which the Holocaust was discussed, and the situation of Roma youth. All these activities were organized and coordinated by young volunteers or by members of the partner organisation.

 

4th Event – Training in Heidelberg with the subject: education about the Holocaust and especially about Roma genocide.

Participation: The event allowed the participation of 52 citizens: 4 from Resita (Romania), 6 from Berlin (Germany), 4 from Budapest (Hungary), 2 from Beek Ubbergen (Holland), 2 from Brussels (Belgium), 4 from Barcelona (Spain), 3 from Rome (Italy), 3 from Banska Bystrica (Slovakia), 3 from Wien (Austria), 2 from Belgrade (Serbia), 4 from Kumanovo (Macedonia), 2 from Kamen (Bulgaria), 4 from Krakovia (Poland), 3 from Usti nad Labem and Prague (The Czech Republic) and 6 from Paris (France).

Place/Date: The event took place in Heidelberg, Germany during the period: 16.03.2016 -22.03.2016

Short description: The event was a seminary to which experts in the Roma Holocaust domain participated and other people, young people interested in the Holocaust, the objective of this event being that of capacitating the young people present to develop and coordinate educational activities, seminaries, trainings and information sessions about the Roma Holocaust. Documentaries for the Roma and Sinty people were presented; participants received access to the Roma Holocaust Museum. In addition, participants meeting with the Holocaust survivors took place.

At the same time, during the seminary, the realization of new working methods was followed, to be used in the education about the Holocaust and the education about human rights.

During the same meeting, the schedule of the commemoration events of the Roma genocide was also discussed, which was later organized in August in Krakovia.

 

5th Event – Young European recall the Roma Holocaust – international conference

Participation: The event allowed 362 citizens to meet: 48 from the town of Resita, the cities of Cluj and Iasi (Romania), 50 from the cities of Berlin and Heidelberg (Germany), 35 from the city of Budapest (Hungary), 10 from the city of Beek Ubbergen (Holland), 35 from the city of Brussels (Belgium), 10 from the city of Barcelona (Spain), 10 from the city of Rome (Italy), 15 from the cities of Banska Bystrica and Bratislava (Slovakia), 30 from the city of Wien (Austria), 10 from the city of Belgrade (Serbia), 15 from the city of Kumanovo and Skopje (Macedonia), 15 from the city of Kamen (Bulgaria), 44 from Krakovia and Warsaw (Poland), 20 from Usti nad Labem and Prague (The Czech Republic) and 15 from Paris (France).

Place/Date:  The event took place in Krakovia and in Auschwitz in Poland during the time period: 01.08.2016 – 05.08.2016

Short description: The event was dedicated to the commemoration, recalling and education of young people on the Roma Holocaust.

The event program contain a commemoration activity of the Roma Holocaust, organized on the 2nd of August in Auschwitz, two seminary days also dedicated to the youth education on the Roma Holocaust, human rights and activist and a day was dedicated to the visiting of museums in  Auschwitz and in Birkenau.

During this event, at which young people from 21 countries participated, information and education sessions about the Roma Holocaust were organized, lead by seminary participants from Heidelberg and supervised by a team of experts in non-formal education insured by the European Council for the dates of 3 and 4 August.

The commemoration event of the Roma Holocaust was organised by the host, being and international event to which delegates from governments participated, from 22 countries.

 

6th Event 6 – 70 years after – local activities for recollection and education about the Roma Holocaust.

Participation: The event allowed the gathering of 724 citizens: 64 from the town Resita, the cities of Cluj and Iasi (Romania), 70 from the cities of Berlin and Heidelberg (Germany), 34 from Budapest (Hungary), 58 from Beek Ubbergen (Holland), 77 from Brussels (Belgium), 84 from Barcelona (Spain), 34 from Roma (Italy), 71 from Banska Bystrica and Bratislava (Slovakia), 14 from Wien (Austria), 25 from Belgrade (Serbia), 18 from Kumanovo and Skopje (Macedonia), 30 from Kamen (Bulgaria), 52 from Krakovia and Warsaw (Poland), 21 from Usti nad Labem and Prague (The Czech Republic) and 69 from Paris (France).

Place/Date: The events took place in Resita, Cluj and Iasi – Romania, Barcelona – Spain, Berlin – Germany, Budapest – Hungary, Roma – Italy, Banska Bistrita – Slovakia, Prague – The Czech Republic, Krakovia – Poland, Belgrade – Serbia, Skopje – Macedonia, Wien – Austria, Kamen – Bulgaria, Paris – France, Brussels – Belgium, Leeuwarden – Holland during the entire year of 2016.

Short description: The event was dedicated to the recruitment and inclusion in long term training for 10 young people from each partner country during, who during the entire period of the training had the role of organizing activities at a local level. They organized local activities as follows: in the 16th of May in France, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Macedonia and Serbia, on the 2nd of August in the 16 partner countries, in one or more locations; on the 9th of October and the 1st of June in Romania; on the 5th of May in Austria; on the 19th of April in Poland and on the 27th of January 2017 in all partner countries.

Activities at a local level had as purpose to inform citizens about the Holocaust and its effects, mainly about the Roma Holocaust, to commemorate the Holocaust victims, to educate young people about the Holocaust and to demonstrate a civil spirit and activism among young people.

 

7th Event – The European conference on the education and recollection of Roma genocide

Participation: The event allowed 41 citizens to meet, of which: 5 from Resita (Romania), 4 from Berlin (Germany), 3 from Budapest (Hungary), 1 from Beek Ubbergen (Holland), 6 from Brussels (Belgium), 3 from Barcelona (Spain), 2 from Roma (Italy), 2 from Banska Bystrica (Slovakia), 2 from Wien (Austria), 2 from Belgrade (Serbia), 2 from Kumanovo (Macedonia), 2 from Kamen (Bulgaria), 3 from Krakovia (Poland), 2 from Usti nad Labem and Prague (The Czech Republic) and 2 from Paris (France).

Place/Date: The event took place in Brussels, Belgium during the period 28.11.2016 -30.11.2016

Short description: The event was dedicated to the dissemination and promotion of the project results at an international level and contained a preparing activity for future activities of advocacy and commemoration of Roma genocide, a public activity advocacy during which young people met with members of the European Parliament and with representatives of some international organisations as the  Open Society Institute, the World Bank, the United Nation Development Program, ERGO, a parallel activity with the European Platform for Roma people and an activity for the preparing of future actions.

At the same time, during this meeting the continuation of activities included in this project was discusses, through the partnership realized and the implication of international organisms; activism was promoted together with the young people’s participation, especially due to the fact that they were the ones to establish the final agenda and moderated all discussions.
