Nevo Parudimos Association implements the TolerART project between June and October 2023, realized with the financial support of the National Agency for Roma – Government of Romania.

This initiative wants to change rasial attitudes through education and knowledge, being a project that will combine training and education activities with activities to promote tolerance and multicultural aspects, in order to create in the city of Resita an inclusive, tolerant and non-prejudiced local community.

The purpose of the project is to promote tolerance towards the Roma, in particular, and ethnic minorities, in general, by increasing the level of intercultural education at the level of the population of Resita.

All the activities within the project were thought out in such a way that at the end of their implementation, we have in Resita, on the one hand, young people part of different ethnic minorities with increased self-confidence, able to understand their own culture and with the necessary knowledge not to identify with the prejudices that come upon them. On the other hand, we will have educational instructors (school monitors, teachers) with increased capacities in promoting tolerance and anti-racist attitudes among the children and young people they train.

By increasing the capacities of school instructors, but also by promoting tolerance at the local level and highlighting the culture and traditions of the ethnic minorities, we will have high school youth at the local level and a local community in general who will know better the culture and traditions of the ethnic minorities and will be more tolerant and acceptant.

The general objective of the project is to increase the level of tolerance and intercultural acceptance towards the Roma, in particular, and ethnic minorities in general, among the population of Resita.

The specific objectives of the project are:

  • Increasing the knowledge and skills of 20 education instructors from the city of Resita in the promotion and transmission of anti-racist and tolerant attitudes among the communities they work with.
  • Increasing the knowledge and skills of 40 young people of different ethnicities from Caras-Severin county on the topic of anti-racism, racially motivated hate speech and the recognition of racist attitudes.
  • Increasing the inclusion of disadvantaged, minority groups in the city of Resita, by promoting the culture and traditions of the Roma, in particular, and of ethnic minorities in general.

All these objectives will be achieved by organizing the training activity of disadvantaged young people, of education instructors from the city of Resita on the topic of anti-discrimination; of promoting tolerance through an online campaign and promoting the culture and traditions of Roma and ethnic minorities by organizing a show with artists and craftsmen representing the different ethnicities involved in the project. All the activities aim to create an intercultural climate based on respect for the values of interculturality, on knowledge of the cultural values of the Roma, on knowledge and mutual social and cultural respect, on zero tolerance towards racist attitudes.
