“Gelem, Gelem, the Roma hymn, is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Since I first listened to this song, I felt close to Roma people. It is a song I listened to for hours and it shows me the richness of Roma culture”, declared Dani Klein. At the children’s request, the international star, Dani Klein sang another song to them in French, and later told them about her childhood.

At the end of the meeting, pupils from the Secondary School no. 13 from Bucharest and the CRISS Romani team offered the artist a unique gift: a traditional Roma skirt. Dani Klein was excited about the gist received and encouraged Roma children to trust themselves and to be proud of their cultural inheritance of the ethnicity they represent.

This action was organized by the CRISS Romani, with the support of Martin Demirovski, from the Open Society Foundation, in the project “Strategic steps for the improvement of access to education for Roma children”, a project that proposes to increase self esteem in Roma children, to eliminate school segregation in Romania and fight school drop out for Roma children.
