The Nevo Parudimos Association implements, between May and September 2024, the RomACTIVE project, financed non-refundable from the budget of the National Agency for Roma.
The initiative aims to reduce discrimination against the Roma minority in the Banat region through information and awareness activities on Roma culture and values.
The activities within the project focus on cultural valorization and cultural self-identification in order to eliminate stereotypes and change the overall image at the community level in the Banat region of the Roma minority.
As activities, the project will involve the implementation of:
– A training course for 30 education instructors from Caras-Severin and Timis counties, teachers and directors of schools where Roma children and young people study
– A training course for 40 young Roma people, aged 14-18, from Caras-Severin and Timis counties, which will mainly have a non-formal approach. The course will have an approach based on the direct exchange of experience between
the young participants regarding ethnically motivated discrimination, the need for inclusion, cultural self-identification, the method from which the training part will start regarding the recognition of racist attitudes and the knowledge of one’s own culture in
the purpose of building self-esteem among the 40 participants
– A campaign to promote tolerance and reduce discrimination and capitalize on the cultural peculiarities of the Roma ethnic group. This activity will have a direct approach to the general public through radio broadcasts with Roma personalities and promotion of Roma culture at Radio Romania Resita and articles in the print media.
Also, a catalog with Roma personalities from Romania will be created which will be available online and printed in 100 copies and a photo exhibition with Roma personalities from Romania.
Our project aims to capitalize on the Roma culture, both among the local community as a whole from Caras-Severin and Timis, but especially among the young members of these ethnic groups from the Banat region by promoting and facilitating the knowledge of their own culture, and increasing the spirit of belonging to it ethnicity, as well as increasing self-esteem and pride.
As part of the campaign to promote tolerance, interviews will be broadcast weekly between July and September, with national personalities of Roma ethnicity and young people with a success story belonging to this ethnic minority, as part of the weekly program of the Roma minority on Radio Romania Resita .
